Position Summary:
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University. The Enterprise Student Management System (ESMS) Graduate Division and Undergraduate Admissions IT team is responsible for supporting the IT needs of the UC Irvine Undergraduate Admissions office and Graduate Division office. Our mission is to provide information technology support, services, and innovative solutions to ensure the success of UC Irvine’s Undergraduate Admission Office and Graduate Division Office.
UCI’s Office of Information Technology is looking for an experienced Java developer to join the Graduate Division and Undergraduate Admissions IT team. In this senior-level full-stack Java developer position, you will be responsible for the enhancement, maintenance, and business user support of the key systems for the Graduate Division (GD) and Undergraduate Admissions (UGA) office. Under the general supervision of the GD & UGA IT Manager, the Java Developer applies skills as a seasoned, experienced software professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards and relevant policies and procedures to medium-sized projects or portions of large projects with moderate scope and complexity. Resolves a wide range of issues, including operational issues. Works on programming assignments of moderate to complex scope where analysis of situations and/or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Demonstrates competency in Java, SQL, RESTful API, MVC pattern, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), Apache, and Tomcat to obtain results. Required:
Minimum three (3) years of experience leading, coordinating, and managing all aspects of project management in the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Minimum three (3) years of experience supporting homegrown software solutions. Experience with second tier IT support experience preferred. Operational support experience preferred. Production support experience preferred. Scrum/Agile SDLC experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates a high degree of independence and can thrive under general supervision. Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated broad problem-solving skills. Intermediate knowledge of secure software development. Thorough experience with common programming tools. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications. Demonstrated software repository skills. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. Ability to ensure systems and services remain operational and compliant, timely, and accommodate campus growth. Demonstrated ability to contribute technical narrative to grant proposals. Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation, and deployment, including object-oriented programming and analysis skill, Service-Oriented Architecture concepts, RESTful API techniques, database query language programming skills, and Java programming language skills.
Thorough experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums. Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Demonstrated ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
