IT System architect (32h)
at the Vienna University Computer Center  
At the University of Vienna (with 15 faculties, 4 centers, around 188
fields of study, approx. 9.700 employees and over 92.000 students) not
only is IT diversity practiced in research and teaching, but a digital
and open landscape for research in Austria is being created.
We are looking for an IT system architect as part of the national
project Austrian DataLAB and Services. The goal is to increase
usability and lower the learning curve for researchers and students
when using compute resources in their daily work.
We are looking for an experienced engineer to assist us in building a
prototypical federated private cloud and in designing best practices
for its usage. In this position you will be responsible for the design
and development of systems for the transfer of large amounts of data
from research for data management and subsequently for preservation. In
addition to being proficient in software development, solid knowledge
in system administration is also important.
This position is limited to June 30th 2024.
Your tasks:
•    Design and development of an infrastructure for compute research data
•    Requirements Engineering and collecting use cases in academia
•    Implementation of IaaS and PaaS for (friendly) users
•    Assistance in network design choices
•    Assistance on the federated AuthN (local AuthZ) implementations  
•    Contribution and support of a security first approach
•    Documentation
Your profile:
•    Knnowledge in software development (Perl,
Python or PHP) and practical experience in using modern tech stacks
•    Knowledge of API development and expertise in the development of open-source software
•    Knowledge in container virtualization (Docker) and system administration (LINUX)
•    Knowledge of at least one Cloud Stack (public or private)
•    Knowledge of tooling (preferably open source;
Elastic, Prometheus, Loki, Jaeger, Grafana, Kibana, Sysdig) is an
advantage
•    Understanding of Networking (TCP/IP), NAT and virtualized networks
•    Experience with OpenStack is beneficial but not required
•    Solid English skills
•    Good communication skills and ability to work in a team, especially during remote work
•    Can-do attitude

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §54
VwGr. IVa. The actual salary including an overpayment of at least €
3,100.00 (on a full-time basis) is based on your qualifications and
relevant work experience.
