Position Summary

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) of Columbia University seeks a part-time IT Specialist to assist with the day-to-day IT operations of the department.  IT Specialist will work closely with department’s IT Manager to support the needs of faculty, students, and staff and will be under the supervision of Dr. Soumitra Sengupta. The ideal candidate will have experience in desktop support and troubleshooting and experience in using different technology devices on multiple platforms and applications.

Responsibilities

  • Offer technical support to staff and troubleshoot computer problems.
  • Review diagnostics and assess the functionality and efficiency of systems.
  • Helps with inventory management control and secure disposals.
  • Monitor security certificates and company compliance of requirements.
  • Supports IT environment and compliance.
  • Install and update company software and hardware as needed.
  • Anticipate and report the cost of replacing or updating computer items.
  • Performs a variety of fulfillment of IT duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 3 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the following areas preferred:
    • Computer installation and repair.
    • Exceptional customer service.
    • Server maintenance.

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical ability to lift/carry/maneuver servers and desktops weighing 60+ lbs.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Office Suite, and Anti-Virus/Malware applications.
  • Be proactive in using and learning about technology products.
