About the Role: 

Reporting to the Associate Director, Recreation the Coordinator leads the Brock University’s Intramural program, ensuring high quality recreational opportunities are offered to the student body through sports leagues and tournaments. The incumbent will also lead the spring and summer community programming. 

The Intramural and Community Program Coordinator will: 

  • Create and implement the intramural programming that cater the needs of the Brock University student community while reflecting the institution’s core values; 
  • Coordinate the hiring and training of Intramural student staff; establish goals, monitor performance, and provide team building and leadership development opportunities; 
  • Design, implement, and facilitate training sessions for all intramural officials and recreation staff; 
  • Process and authorize staff contracts and timesheets; 
  • Plan and update intramural and tournament programs and schedules that align with student interests; 
  • Ensure all staff possess current safety certifications; conduct necessary inspections prior to games, enforce rules accurately, and verify equipment safety; 
  • Provide on-site supervision for Intramural leagues and tournaments as required (approx. 65 leagues involving over 6500 participants and 5 tournaments); 
  • Support staff in addressing disciplinary issues during leagues and tournaments; meet with players facing suspension to assess the situation and enforce suspensions when appropriate; 
  • Ensure all programs are entered and maintained in ActiveNet and IMLeagues;
  • Plan spring and summer community programs in accordance with guidelines from relevant provincial and national governing bodies, ensuring they address community needs; 
  • Recruit, train, and supervise program instructors, holding regular meetings and coordinating with subject-matter experts for specialized training; 
  • Collect participant feedback to inform additional training for staff, implement program adjustments, and plan future offerings; 
  • Implement risk management strategies to ensure safe operation of activities and ensure proper reporting of all accidents; 
  • Develop and promote programs to achieve target participant numbers; 
  • Monitor budgets to ensure alignment with financial goals, tracking both revenue and expenses against targets. 

Key Skills and Experience: 

  • Completion of a university degree (e.g., Recreation, Fitness and Health Promotion, Physical Education, Sports Management, or a closely related field) or the equivalent of education and experience; 
  • Vulnerable Sector Background Check 
  • First Aid & CPR and AED; 
  • Related experience in a program planning role including recreation or athletic management and supervision of employees; 
  • Broad knowledge of a variety of sport rules and regulations; 
  • Knowledge of university and community recreation programming; 
  • Demonstrated supervisory knowledge for ongoing hiring, training and mentoring of student staff; 
  • Solid computer competency, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, web applications and web maintenance, social media platforms, internet search engines, scheduling and registration software; 
  • Promotes and embodies inclusivity and respect within the workplace and the broader community; 
  • Ability to coach, mentor, motivate and handle difficult situations with students and staff; 
  • Ability to design and deliver effective training sessions; 
  • Effective marketing skills to persuade participants to take part in programs; 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to balance a wide variety of competing requests and scheduling needs. 

Preferred or Asset Skills: 

  • Experience with ACTIVE NET and IM Leagues software programs. 

Salary and Total Rewards: 

  • Job Grade L, Salary Scale ($62,580-$107,280); 
  • Target Hiring Range: $62,580-$70,000 
  • This is a permanent position that includes: 
  • Health & Dental Benefits: Comprehensive extended health, dental, and vision coverage. 
  • Pension Plan: Enrollment eligibility in the Brock University Pension Plan. 
  • Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays.

  • The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
