The National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) offers grad students and postgrads a 10-week internship for those interested in the museum-related fields.
The Smithsonian Institution (SI) offers this internship in various locations. NMAI is located in Washington DC, the NAMI Cultural Resources Center (CRC) is located in nearby Suitland, Maryland, and the NMAI New York George Gustav Heye Center (GGHC) is located in New York City. Summer internships start the first full week of June, spring internships Start the third full week of March, and
fall internships start the last full week of September.
Interns complete projects using the resources of the NMAI and other Smithsonian offices. Internships are an opportunity for students to learn about the museum’s collections, exhibitions, programs, and methodologies, and to meet professionals in the museum field.
Eligibility & Requirements
Must be currently enrolled in a university academic program.
If applicant if not a current student, they may still apply but will need to use the essay portion of the application to state how an internship in the particular department will benefit academic and professional goals.
A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or its equivalent is generally expected.
