The Centre for International Experience (CIE), within the Division of Student Life and the Office of Vice President International, provides students opportunities so they can expand their learning into the global arena. We work with students, academic units, local and global community to create sustainable and diverse learning abroad experiences that incorporate study, research and professional opportunities. We work in partnership with faculties and services to enable students new to Canada to maximize their time at U of T to meet their goals and aspirations on graduation. Finally, we work to build global learning opportunities on campus curricular, co-curricular and experiential.

Your opportunity:

The International Scholarships Advisor will provide support to international scholars through scholarship programs administered by the Centre for International Experience. Reporting to the Associate Director, International Student Experience & Global Fluency and under the supervision of the International Scholarships Advisor and Manager, the Advisor will design and deliver enrichment programming and provide student support pertaining to student life and international student experience affairs.

The International Scholarships Advisor works with cohort-based, high profile international degree-seeking and short-term scholarship programs, and provides front-line support to all participating scholars The incumbent works closely with the Division of University Advancement, Student Life and divisional teams across the university as well as with external donor groups on supporting program requirements and scholar success. The incumbent works with tri-campus International Student Centres, Student Life partners and faculties to: deliver international scholars’ enrichment activities related to the scholarship programs, resolve accessibility and personal circumstances hindering academic performance and personal wellbeing, and nurturing an overall positive student experience. Supports daily communication, coordination and delivery of activities related to: international scholars’ welcome, orientation and well-being, social / intercultural activities, leadership and professional development, and other tailored activities for international scholarship students related to their scholarship program. Works closely with University Advancement in the support and delivery of programming.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on co-curricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual’s background
  • Handling sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Planning and implementing components of curricular/co-curricular programs and activities
  • Conducting detailed analysis on program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning activities and creation of summary reports
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials as well as directing the activities of casual staff

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience working with program cohorts from pre-arrival to graduation in an international higher education setting is required.
  • Of the 4years’ experience, a minimum of 2 years’ designing and delivering enrichment programming in partnership with key student experience stakeholders such as University Advancement, Student Life and Divisional teams is required.
  • Of the 4 years’ experience, a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with international students and campus partners to support wellbeing, and safety is required.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering events and workshops on leadership and professional development required.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering student enrichment programs to international students is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of international student support services and international student experience from the Student Life lens required.
  • Communication skills
  • Computer skills (MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Strong diplomacy skills

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experience working with external donors and donor agreements an asset.
  • International experience working in a non-Canadian education setting an asset.
  • Knowledge of a second language an asset.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:

USW Pay Band 12 — $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
