Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is located in the United Nations Information Center in Washington, DC. The Center is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in the United States. The Information Center is responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating UN information materials to a local audience in English; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves. The duration of the internship is three months with the possibility of extension for another three additional months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time or part-time depending on academic obligations, to commence as soon as possible. Enter reporting line for Intern William Davis, Director, UNIC, Washington, DC Enter specific project or work area the intern will contribute to Enter specific tasks the intern will fulfil The selected intern will perform duties to include, but not limited to the following: · Assist with content and design of social media posts and conduct analysis of social media metrics. · Assist with the production of communication products, including conducting research, compiling information, coordinating logistics, and assisting with public inquiries. · Assist with preparations for events, high-level visitors from headquarters and field offices, and speaking engagements; Compile, analyze and organize data for office reports. · Attend meetings and draft summaries. · Perform other tasks as necessary.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Candidates for our internship positions are not required to have professional experience. Applicants must : • Be computer literate in standard software applications including Microsoft Office 365 and Google programs • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
