Student Affairs is at the very heart of the student experience at the University of Ottawa. We recruit the very best future students, support them throughout their university years and leave them well-prepared for fulfilling careers and future studies. Our team of more than 600 dedicated staff provides the services that keep students happy, well and thriving as they pursue their ambitions. We help them apply and enrol for courses, we oversee 11 residences and an award-winning Dining Hall, we organize fun events and varsity sports activities, we run an innovative career development and experiential learning program and much more!

There’s nothing more rewarding than helping future generations reach their full potential at a world-class university. With our wide variety of career opportunities and professional development pathways, we’re sure that you’ll enjoy the experience as much as our students do.

Position purpose:

Develop, organize and promote employment-related programs, events and activities for students, graduates and recent graduates of the University of Ottawa in order to educate them in the area of employment preparation, transition to the job market and a better understanding of the link between their academic achievements, employability, careers and related employment opportunities.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Plan, develop, coordinate and supervise employment services and the on-campus recruitment program: career fairs, recruitment receptions, employer presentations, on-campus interviews, networking activities, job board (JobsNow), etc. Ensure the quality of these services, and the participation and visibility of Cooperative Education Programs during these events. Develop tools to ensure that our students are well prepared to participate in employment events.
  • Plan and develop proactive strategies to build privileged alliances with local, national and international employers in collaboration with the University’s internal partners, and foster career and co-op integration in initiatives with employers.
  • Act as the University of Ottawa’s ambassador to employers to promote the University’s brand and encourage the hiring of our co-op and other students, graduates and post-graduates. Network with employer groups on a regional and national basis to identify opportunities for our students and graduates.
  • Demonstrate strong account management skills by ensuring, among other things, regular follow-up according to cycles, sound management of expectations, service excellence and management of difficult situations. Also, be able to effectively use a contact management system (CRM) and demonstrate daily discipline in managing data related to these accounts.
  • Participate in outreach activities as part of a faculty-wide approach. Create partnerships with faculties, student associations and the Alumni Relations Office in order to plan, organize and deliver career development services and implement ways to promote the employability of our students and graduates.
  • Define communication, marketing and logistical needs related to employment events and work closely with the Event Management Coordinator in the planning, organization and logistics of employment events.
  • Lead and supervise the employment team (RTEUO and/or co-op students) in order to execute an outreach strategy to local, national and international employers to encourage them to participate in our various events (career fairs, recruitment reception, etc.), post their job offers on our job board (JobsNow) and consider hiring co-op students (internships). Measure the impact of the employment team by establishing specific performance measures for desired results.
  • Develop and implement job posting standards and ensure employer compliance. Interpret and apply ethical recruitment standards as defined by the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE), to protect students and limit the University’s liability in cases of fraud and unregulated solicitation.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Communications Officer – Coop & carrières to plan marketing and communications strategies (social media, infoletter, targeted communications via Talisma, etc.) for employment events for employers and students in order to increase the visibility and credibility of the Career Corner and Coop and participation in fairs and other employment activities by both employers and the student population.
  • Determine costs to be charged to employers for on-campus employment events based on competitors (fees charged by other post-secondary institutions), market demand and service sales targets. Work closely with the Event Management Coordinator to optimize event logistics costs and net revenues.
  • Organize workshops on job event preparation, job search strategies, networking and other topics as required, in collaboration with career advisors and relevant faculties.

What you will bring:

  • In-depth knowledge of employment and the labor market, generally acquired through post-secondary training
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in account management and/or business development
