The Opportunity:

Join the UCF Student Health Team as the Dental Center’s Insurance Eligibility/Verification Specialist and add to our dedication to provide excellent healthcare to the community that we serve.

This position provides insurance verification of Dental Center patients and oversight of crossover data between the Dental Center and the Student Health Service (SHS) electronic medical records (EHR) system and submits claims to insurance companies for processing and payment; reviews and appeals unpaid and denied claims. This position also answers billing questions, handles unpaid accounts, manages reports, and maintains databases.

Responsibilities:  

  • Performs insurance functions for the SHS Dental Center to include processing adjustments into eClinicalWorks.

  • Verifies and provides insurance benefits within three (3) to five (5) business days after provided by the patient or prior to the patient’s appointment as needed.

  • Reviews code diagnostic and procedural dental information as necessary for processing insurance payments.

  • Initiates all phases of billing in an adequate amount of time and resubmits claims as needed.

  • Processes insurance adjustments and calculates charges to be paid by patients; communicates and works cooperatively with the dental providers and other healthcare professionals to resolve coding issues, denials, and rejections.

  • Reconciles patient insurance accounts and maintains dental insurance accounts receivables and runs monthly reports on same.

  • Provides claims processing assistance for all students and patients participating with insurance plans, assists them with any account problem resolutions regarding past due balances, and helps students with re-submission of bills as applicable.

  • Communicates and reviews patient accounts as needed, when requested by patients.

  • Assists the Dental Center with answering phones, scheduling patients, and providing front desk administrative support.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:  

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Insurance eligibility and/or verification experience in a dental practice setting.

  • Excellent professional communication skills and ability to relate well with staff and students.

  • Microsoft Office experience to include Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
