Instructor – Strategic Management in the Public & Private Sectors
The Faculty of Management (FoM) invites applications for an instructor-stream position in strategic management (public and private sector) with a commencement date of July 1, 2024. This date is negotiable. The position will report to the Chairs of Departments of Public and International Affairs (PIA), and Strategy, Entrepreneurship and International Business (SEIB).
The successful candidate is expected to bring expertise in in strategic management, including strategy/policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation. Knowledge and/or experience from the public and private sector contexts would be assets. The responsibilities will include (i) teaching undergraduate and graduate management courses, in areas such as strategic management, strategic competitiveness, program evaluation, and policy analysis; (ii) developing new or renew existing course curricula in the appropriate topic areas; (iii) engaging with students and colleagues on topics related to strategic management; and (iv) actively participating in the activities of the two departments.
Required qualifications, experience, and skills
• A PhD or DBA in Strategic Management or Public Administration (or a similar discipline)
• Applicants very close to their thesis defense date may also be considered. The candidates must have demonstrated research productivity commensurate with their career stage.
• Demonstrated expertise in the areas of strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Demonstrated ability to apply the above expertise across the public and private sectors. The candidate’s qualifications must meet the Faculty’s accreditation standard (AACSB and CAPPA).
Preferable qualifications, experience, and skills
• Evidence of efforts to foster safer spaces for equity-deserving groups;
• Established record of teaching excellence in relevant courses, and promise in the case of early career individuals;
• Experience with online teaching and pedagogical innovation.
This is a teaching-focused position; the teaching load is defined by the Faculty’s workload policy. The career-stream instructor (probationary/continuing) position is one in which the successful candidate will undergo performance evaluation and review consistent with the Dalhousie Faculty Association collective agreement (http://www.dal.ca/collectiveagreements), with the possibility to advance through ranks of instructor/senior instructor/University Teaching Fellow, in a continuing appointment.
The Faculty of Management offers programs at the undergraduate level (Bachelor of Commerce; Bachelor of Management) and graduate level (MBA, MPA, and MSc). The FoM has a strong scholarly expertise about how we can build diverse, sustainable and responsible organizations. The FoM serves over 1,600 students and prides itself on developing the next generation of leaders. FoM specializes in experiential learning including residencies, consulting projects, co-op work terms, internships, blended learning, and new venture creation.
