Posting Text | The department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of South Dakota invites applications for the position of Instructor or Lecturer of Lakota to begin in fall 2023. This is a nine-month, full-time, benefits-eligible term position with the expectation of renewal. Generally, an earned Master’s Degree is required for instructor rank and a terminal degree is required for appointment at the rank of lecturer. The successful candidate: • will teach up to 14 annual credits of the basic Lakota language sequence at the 100 and 200 level on the Vermillion campus. • should have advanced (preferably native/near-native) fluency in Lakota (or a related linguistic variant) and be able to demonstrate evidence of superior teaching. • should demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching, expertise in current methodologies and culture-based instruction, including integration of technology in the classroom and successful teaching and mentoring of students from all backgrounds. • be qualified to teach in a secondary field within the College of Arts & Sciences at USD (https://www.usd.edu/arts-and-sciences) or otherwise contribute to the mission of the department, college, and university through outreach, advising, or similar efforts.
