Instructor (Limited Term – 2 Years), Department of Physics and Astronomy

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Calgary invites applications for a limited-term instructor appointment (2-year) with an anticipated start date of August 1st, 2024, or as soon thereafter as possible.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Physics or a related field; will have a demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness and engagement with students; and is expected to teach up to seven courses per year from the following list (see detailed descriptions in the Academic Calendar):

PHYS 211/221 – Mechanics – Fall 2024 and/or Spring 2025
PHYS 223 – Introductory Electromagnetism and Thermal Physics – Winter 2025
PHYS 259 – Electricity and Magnetism for Engineering Students – Winter 2025 and/or Summer 2025
PHYS 303 – Quantum Mysteries and Paradoxes – Fall 2024 (web-based)
PHYS 323 – Optics and Electromagnetism – Fall 2024
PHYS 365 – Acoustics, Optics and Modern Physics (for Engineering students) – Fall 2024
PHYS 371 – Energy Science – Spring 2025
PHYS 375 – Introduction to Optics and Waves – Fall 2024
ASTR 207 – Introduction to Astronomy I – (Spring/Summer 2025)
ASTR 209 – Introduction to Astronomy I – (Winter 2025)

Responsibilities include participation in course planning and coordination, and engagement with delivery of the course laboratories. The Department’s teaching and course support team includes dedicated teaching-steam and research-stream faculty, and technical and administrative staff who are committed to the delivery of undergraduate instruction of the highest quality, including innovative and engaging pedagogical methods.
