Instructor III, Social Contexts in Education – One-year Term Appointment

POSITION DETAILS
The Faculty of Education is seeking a dynamic educator and innovative educational leader whose academic work demonstrates in depth knowledge and understanding of the relationship between theoretical knowledge and professional practice to provide high quality preparation of future teachers and academic leaders. The individual should be an experienced educator and collaborative colleague for a one-year term full-time Instructor I position in the area of Social Contexts in Education. Academic duties include (i) teaching undergraduate courses, including supervision of undergraduate field experiences, and assessment of student work; (ii) professional activities that contribute to a larger discourse; and (iii) other contributions to the University and scholarly communities.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Qualifications include a graduate degree directly relevant to the social contexts of education as these areas are core components of our undergraduate Bachelor of Education program. A doctoral degree is preferred though applicants who are nearing completion of their doctoral degree may be considered; individuals considered ‘master’ teachers as supported by evidence who have successfully attained a master’s level graduate degree in a field relevant to Social Contexts in Education may also be considered. Applicants should have a minimum of three years of teaching experience and be eligible for teacher certification in the Province of Alberta. The successful candidate should have the ability and interest to teach courses in and contribute to our Bachelor of Education degree. The ability to teach in person, online, and blended formats, and the ability to integrate innovative technology into teaching will be an asset for this position. As a destination university, prospective applicants are expected to relocate to Lethbridge, Alberta to support students and actively engage in our university culture. Fluency in English is a requirement. Proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Preference will be given to applicants with research expertise and/or ability to teach in one or more of the following areas:
• Teaching and learning in complex classroom spaces.
• Social and cultural influences and issues affecting learning, teaching, and the process of schooling.
• Approaches to addressing equity, diversity, inclusion and decoloniality.
• Social construction of knowledge.
• Student success in inclusive learning environments.
• Privilege and its influences on educational experiences.
• Legal frameworks supporting the creation of equitable classrooms.
• First Nations, Inuit and Mètis foundational knowledge.

Ability to teach in one or more of these additional areas at the undergraduate or graduate level is considered a strong asset:
• Early years and elementary pedagogy
• Sociology of education
• Philosophy of education
• Professions and trades education
• Learning, identity, wellbeing and the social good
