COURSE: Business Student Success – PMPB 6P12

DEPARTMENT: Graduate Programs, Goodman School of Business

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Temporary Part-time (September 1, 2024- December 30, 2024)

COMPENSATION:

Effective September 1, 2024 – $7,471.08 per half course (195 hours nominally)

Effective September 1, 2024 – $14,942.17 per full course (390 hours nominally)

DUTIES:

Lecture times: Wednesdays 1500-1800

In accordance with Unit 1 Collective Agreement, Instructors are responsible for preparing and delivering weekly lectures based on assigned textbook and Goodman School of Business curriculum; marking assignments and providing constructive and detailed feedback with aim of preparing students for graduate business studies; preparing and proctoring tests/examinations as specified by the requirements of particular course; maintaining accurate records of individual student performance; attending all course-associated meetings as outlined for the particular course; working collaboratively with other instructors; maintaining frequent communication with program coordinator; other course-specific duties as assigned by program coordinator.

The current plan is to deliver this course in person in the Fall; however, an online section may be offered depending on student needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s Degree complete (Business, Adult Education, Human Resources or other related discipline).

2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience as course instructor for international students in for-credit program at the University level.

3. Excellent record of performance helping international students improve their communication and professional skills.

4. Must be exceptionally knowledgeable about interpersonal relations in organizations and interpersonal skills development.

5. Previous successful experience teaching soft skills using self-assessments, skill-building exercises, experiential activities, and case studies.

6. Demonstrated understanding of connection between student learning objectives, development of soft skills and postgraduate career success.

7. Professional experience working with coaching or training and development for at least two years.

8. Demonstrated interpersonal qualities that support international students’ course-related needs. Ability to communicate effectively and provide constructive feedback. Solid organizational skills and demonstrated capacity to keep accurate records. Ability to work collaboratively with other instructors and program coordinator.

9. Advanced competence in the use of email, Sakai, Microsoft Office 365, Internet, Lifesize, Turnitin, Digital teaching platforms, and multi-media equipment.

This position is included in the CUPE, Local 4207 Unit 1 Union. It is Brock University’s policy to give first consideration to qualified internal CUPE Local 4207-Unit 1 applicants. As per Article 22.04 of the Collective Agreement:

  • Graduate Students enrolled at Brock University shall not accept an appointment in excess of an average of ten hours per week over an academic term, in which she is enrolled as a full-time student, without the prior permission of the Dean of Graduate Studies.
  • Undergraduate Students enrolled at Brock University shall not accept more than nine Teaching Assistant appointments, or the equivalent of nine Teaching Assistant appointments in any classification, per term minus the number of courses in which that student is currently enrolled;
  • Part-time Graduate Students and Non-Students shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours – i.e. not overtime hours – allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.

Applicants that are in excess of the above noted workload limits will not have their applications considered unless they have received prior written approval from the appropriate Dean and the Human Resources Department.
