Instructor, Geography

The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Geography in College of Social and Behavioral Sciences seeks applicants for a full time, renewable term Instructor of Geography position in Environmental Geography, starting in January 2023. This position will support the department’s teaching and community engagement themes in human dimensions of global environmental change and amplify recruitment and advances among our programs and catalyze departmental collaboration in teaching and community engagement that align with existing strengths. Expected teaching responsibilities include four sections per semester, which will include introductory geography courses (world, human, and/or physical), GIS, and an upper division in the specialty of the Instructor. This position would also support DEI initiatives, teaching, and advising in the Geography department, the ARCTICenter and the interdisciplinary ERM program.
The Department of Geography offers a BA in Geography, BS in Geographic Information Science, BA in Environmental Resource Management, and MA in Geography. We also offer a Geography Minor as well as a Certificate in Crime Mapping and Analysis and a Certificate in GIS and Cartography. We have six full time tenured/tenure-track faculty members, one full-time two-year term instructor, a full-time center director, one part-time adjunct faculty member, two research associates and three post-doctoral scholars.

Master’s degree required by the start of appointment in January 2023.

Required qualifications include a demonstrated expertise and excellence in teaching.

Preference will be given to candidates with a master’s degree in Geography or closely related discipline; and expertise in geographic education and sustainability. Candidates with PhD/ABD are strongly encouraged to apply.
