Skills Development and Employment ensures that people with disabilities find and keep meaningful jobs by matching them with employers seeking qualified job candidates. In addition, they offer support with assessments, rehabilitation and child and youth programs.
The opportunity
The instructor will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of learners in the Skills Development & Employment programs. This role focuses on providing tailored support to adult learners, facilitating accessibility, and enhancing their overall learning experience. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, inclusion, and technology, as well as a strong commitment to fostering equitable opportunities for individuals with disabilities. They will also incorporate recreation therapy activities into programming.
Responsibilities:
· Provide one-on-one support to learners to address learning needs.
· Assist learners in developing digital skills through personalized guidance, troubleshooting, and encouragement.
· Monitor and track learner progress, identifying and addressing barriers to success.
· Build positive, supportive relationships to foster learner confidence and engagement.
· Collaborate with the program team to design and implement accommodations (e.g., assistive technologies, alternative formats).
· Advocate for learner needs and provide feedback to improve program accessibility.
· Support instructors during virtual workshops by managing breakout rooms, monitoring chat discussions, and assisting with learner inquiries.
· Contribute to program evaluations by providing feedback on learner experiences and outcomes.
· Work closely with the program team to ensure a seamless participant experience and program delivery.
Qualifications:
· A Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required as a condition upon hire.
· Post-secondary education in education, social work, disability studies, recreation therapy or a related field is required.
· 1–3 years of experience supporting learners, preferably in employability skills, recreation therapy or professional development programs is required.
· Familiarity with accessibility principles and assistive technologies is an asset.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Patience, empathy, and a solution-focused approach to supporting individuals with diverse learning needs.
· Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively in a virtual environment.
· Experience working with individuals with disabilities or other equity-deserving groups is highly desirable.
