Department of Pediatrics, Section of Nutrition has an opening for a full-time Instructor position.

Children’s Hospital Lifestyle Medicine Program provides comprehensive health care integrated with research study participation to children, adolescents and young adults with obesity and obesity related comorbidities including hypertension, type 2 diabetes, etc. The focus of this position is to provide initial care to patients with hypertension as well as new and follow-up care to patients in our primary weight management program. This is an opportunity to work with an incredibly collaborative team of physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners), nurses, social workers, psychologists and pharmacists who have a common goal of improving health disparities for youth with obesity and other related comorbidities.

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
 

  • Perform detailed history, physical exam and formulate differential diagnosis within scope of practice for clients struggling with obesity ages birth-adulthood
  • Perform clinical evaluations for patients with suspected hypertension, to consist of diagnosing whether hypertension is present and evaluating for
  • potential underlying pathophysiology
  • Work alongside our hypertension specialists (nephrology and preventive cardiology) to provide care focused on improving unhealthy weight gain
  • Establish systematic follow-up for evaluation of the plan of care, reassess and modify the plan, as necessary, including initiation of referrals and
  • consultation with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate
  • Perform visits in our primary weight management program, including evaluation, assessment and plan and communication to team and other
  • medical providers
  • Assist in coordination of care for patients transitioning between the primary weight management clinic and subspecialty hypertension weight
  • management clinics
  • Assure patient and family teaching is adequate to manage the treatment plan at home.
  • Facilitate client participation and promote self-care by providing information needed to make decisions and choices
  • Work with the Lifestyle Medicine hypertension team to standardize educational materials and streamline clinical processes (quality
  • improvement initiatives

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $85,500 – $124,500

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Master’s degree in nursing or physician assistant studies
  • 1-year experience in direct patient care

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional background in Pediatrics
  • Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Family Practice or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner OR licensed Physician Assistant
  • Comfort in working with marginalized populations
  • Professional background working with under-represented minorities
  • Experience working in the field of obesity and/or with adolescents
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
  • Spanish-Speaking
  • Special Skills: Prescribing authority DEA

Conditions of Employment:

Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado

Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check
