Nature of Work
The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) has an opening for a full-time position at the rank of Instructor. This is a master’s level educationally focused team science position in the Center for Innovative Design and Analysis and Department of Biostatistics and Informatics at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus. The work for this position is largely conducted in the campus wide analytics center, the Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA) providing one-on-one and short course-based education to clinician scientists.
This position will join a growing group of master’s and Doctoral trained faculty in CIDA and over three-dozen faculty and research personnel in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics. The Center and Department jointly provide mentoring and career growth opportunities for the Instructor track.
A biostatistician II is expected to have several years of experience as a collaborative biostatistician in an educational capacity and be ready spend more time developing programs and supervising others. A biostatistician II in the instructor track is expected to provide high-level, professional, and scientifically rigorous biostatistics education to biomedical researchers and students at CU Anschutz through formal teaching, mentoring of junior biostatisticians, and one-on-one interactions. The person in this position is expected to work more independently and be able to teach a wider variety of curriculum to a more diverse set of learners. A smaller portion of this position is study design and analysis for collaborative researchers compared to a Research Instructor.

The Instructor position in CIDA will be supervised by the CIDA Director and mentored by the lead of the collaborative group.

This position may have supervisory responsibilities with graduate Research Assistants seeking MS degrees (RAs) and Professional Research Assistants (PRAs).
Examples of Work Performed
The faculty in the CIDA collaborate with health researchers from nearly every School and Department at CU Anschutz on their biomedical and health research projects, including: design of new studies (sample size and analysis planning), complex programming, developing analysis pipelines, analysis implementation and data visualization, and dissemination of results. This individual is expected to co-author abstracts, oral and poster presentations, and scientific manuscripts with the individuals they instruct in a one-on-one mentoring capacity. They are expected to develop curriculum for statistics suitable for both statisticians and non-statisticians and interact in both an on-line (remote) and in-person learning settings.
In addition to the work of a Biostatistician I – Instructor, a Biostatistician II – Instructor will develop more curriculum in more types of settings (hybrid, multiple on-line formats, video content, in-person, groups and one-on-one), and mentor junior biostatisticians in their analyses for trainees and other learners. In their collaborative biostatistician role, they are expected to conduct more complex analyses, work more independently, and be capable of applying new methodologies to solve the analytic challenges facing their groups.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of statistical principles relevant in medical research.
- Experience teaching statistical principles to non-technical learners.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.
- Ability to investigate the properties of statistical methodology through simulation or other means.
- Strong programming skills in a common statistical software package (such as SAS, R).
- Good organizational skills across multiple projects, managing own work load, self-directed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive attitude and the ability to work with a variety of biomedical investigators and colleagues.
- Ability to contribute to the growth and development of the CIDA and the Department.
Salary and Benefits
The salary / salary range for this position has been established at $83,000-$90,000
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- An MS in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or related area of graduate level training.
- 3 years of post-graduate experience as an analytic consultant/collaborator at the start date of the position.
- 3 years of post-graduate teaching experience with a diverse set of learners.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience teaching on-line or in a remote setting.
- 5+ years of experience mentoring trainees in biomedical programs.
- 5+Experience supervising data analysts or graduate students in biostatistics or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience with data management and integration of data sources.
- 3+ years of experience serving as a biostatistician or data analyst on multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability to compare analytic approaches using simulation or a similar alternative to suggest best-practices for new situations.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully contribute to the analytic elements of multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in several statistical software languages.
- Evidence of continued coding or analytic skill development.
- Or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
