Position Description

Advertised Job Summary The Department of Education at the University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) is seeking three full-time faculty members to instruct teacher candidates in a range of key subjects, including: 1) secondary STEM education, 2) gifted and talented education, 3) multi-lingual learners, and 4) early childhood education.
The Department of Education enjoys a strong reputation in the preparation of quality educators in South Carolina and the region. As a CAEP-accredited institution, USCB maintains close working relationships with area schools as well as state agencies. Located in South Carolina’s coastal islands, close to Hilton Head, Savannah, and Charleston, USCB is the youngest and fastest growing comprehensive campus in the University of South Carolina system. We seek a candidate who is committed to excellence in teaching, clinical supervision, scholarship, and university service, and demonstrates a strong interest in diversity and collegiality. Required Education and Experience
  • Doctorate in Education
  • A strong commitment to teaching and excellent communication and writing skills are required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Curriculum and Instruction, Mathematics, Science, Early Childhood Education, ESOL, Multi-Lingual Learners, or Gifted and Talented specialization preferred).
  • Three years of successful experience teaching secondary mathematics or science, gifted and talented students, and/or early childhood education.
  • Experience in program development and/or creation of teacher education curricula.
  • Research specialization related to education; K-12 mathematics, science, literacy, special education, gifted and talented, or early childhood education teaching and/or learning preferred.
  • Knowledge of diverse languages is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Teach courses in education for pre-service teachers, including foundation courses and specialty courses relevant to the successful candidate’s area of expertise, such as: mathematics and mathematics education, science and science education, early childhood education, multi-lingual learners, and gifted and talented education.
  • Provide student assistance, including mentoring and academic advising, as well as offering office hours.
  • Establish and maintain an independent research program.
  • Support program recruitment, retention, and mentoring activities.
  • Perform outreach activities with the local school district including, but not limited to, professional development, curricular alignment, serving as a university supervisor, working with the Teacher Cadet program, and functioning as a liaison for opportunities and initiatives.
  • Participate in relevant professional development such as cultural inclusiveness, teaching students in poverty, and working with multi-lingual students.
  • Professional and university service.
