The clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is responsible for providing and facilitating education, based on adult education principles, for staff within Preadmission Clinic and Day Surgery to ensure that clinical competencies and organizational standards/practices are maintained. The CNE uses the principles of adult learning to assess staff educational and professional development needs, and to plan, implement and evaluate educational initiatives for staff. The CNE facilitates, coordinates and supports the implementation if education initiatives for orientation, mandatory education, in-service, and continuing education programming; and for changes in policy, procedures, and protocols and technology to promote clinical competence of staff. The CNE objectively monitors, evaluates, and documents the learning process and learning outcomes. The CNE informs and works in collaboration with program/area management and the employee when education sessions have not resulted in the employee meeting the expected outcomes. The CNE collaborates with the management team to develop and implement new policies/procedures and nursing standards, nursing staff development plans, implement new policies/procedures and nursing standards, nursing staff develop plans, and training/education sessions to address specific learning needs. The CNE participates on committee and working group to plan, develop, and implement new clinical policies, procedures, practices and initiatives, and to provide input to broader (regional/site specific) education requirements. The CNE acts as a role model and resource to all staff for professional development and clinical competency. The CNE adheres to their Code of Ethics and his/her employers’ policies/procedures.
As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Strong computer skills required. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a surgical setting, must have working knowledge of Day Surgery and Ambulatory care setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to previous Day Surgery/ Ambulatory setting experience. Experience with Connect Care in Op Time will be considered an asset. Experience with connect care a must, Op Time preferred.
