JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Filippelli Institute for e-Education and Outreach , located in the College of the Liberal Arts , has an opening for an Instructional Design Assistant to join our talented learning design team. By working collaboratively with our Instructional Designers and online instructors, the person in this position will assist with the maintenance and technical support of the college’s online courses.

 

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provides maintenance and technical support of online courses in Canvas under the guidance of the Instructional Designers

  • Troubleshoot and respond to instructor and student technical concerns with the online courses

  • Adjust Canvas settings in response to accommodation requests; this can include extending due dates or providing extra time on exams

  • Assist Instructional Designers with placing course content and assessments into Canvas

  • Work with the Learning Design team to troubleshoot issues and test new Canvas features and other technology tools

 

In addition to Canvas, the Instructional Design Assistant may use the following tools and applications: Microsoft Office 365, Google Workspace (formally Gsuite), Smartsheet, Turnitin, VoiceThread, Kaltura, and LionPATH (Penn State’s student information system).

Education and Experience: This position will be filled at the rank of Instructional Production Specialist 2, which typically requires an Associate’s degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other qualifications include:

  • Ability to be detail-oriented

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

  • Familiarity with Canvas and HTML

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to meet specified deadlines
