Instructional Assistant Professor or Instructor

The Department of Biology at the University of Mississippi (UM) is seeking an Instructional Assistant Professor (IAP) or Instructor who will be responsible for teaching introductory non-majors (general education) biology courses. The IAP/instructor will also participate in the academic advising of undergraduate biology majors, participate in recruiting events, and provide departmental faculty service. This is a nine-month academic year, non-tenure track appointment, with promotion possibilities. IAP/ Instructor contracts are subject to renewal on an annual basis.   

UM’s Department of Biology is a broad-based department that consists of 19 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 14 instructional faculty, and educates over 800 undergraduate biology majors and 45 graduate students (PhD and MS) (http://biology.olemiss.edu). Construction of a new $175M STEM education facility on campus is underway that will foster interdisciplinary opportunities to fulfill our commitment to inclusive excellence in biology education. Job Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for instruction of non-majors courses and will be expected to advise undergraduate biology majors, participate in recruiting events, and provide departmental faculty service.  

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have either a Ph.D. (preferred, for Instructional Assistant Professor) or an M.S. degree (for Instructor) in Biology or a related field, experience teaching biology courses for non-majors and demonstrate a commitment to pedagogical innovation and inclusivity in the classroom.
