The Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement (DLTE) work in collaboration with academic colleagues, students and professional services to inspire and support the development of learning and teaching practices across Edinburgh Napier University, with the intention of enhancing the student learning experience.
We seek to model good practice, supportively creating space for staff to reflect on and develop their pedagogic knowledge and skill base to create curricula which maximise student engagement and learning.
As part of our ongoing efforts to enable staff and students to thrive, we are currently recruiting an Institutional Researcher to review and collate institutional student data that will inform our learning and teaching practices and offer us a contextualised understanding of student engagement.
The Role:
This role will give you the opportunity to use your excellent research skills to provide valuable support and consultancy for Schools and Professional Services on Learning and Teaching strategic objectives.
As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering a personalised learning experience for students, you will have the responsibility to lead on designing and implementing projects that will drive forward L&T strategic priorities.
As a PhD student or graduate, or someone with experience of working in higher education contexts, you will likely have a good understanding of the current challenges facing the sector with regards to Learning and Teaching.
This along with your keen interest in data, will put you in an excellent position to identify and work with relevant datasets to gather a range of student perspectives, enhancing institution-wide understanding of student needs, expectations and experiences.
You will get to conduct individual and collaborative evaluative research projects, write up research work for peer-reviewed publication and potentially make a real difference to how the University’s curriculum is designed, helping Edinburgh Napier University to maintain its position as the #1 university in Edinburgh for Student Satisfaction.

What we will need from you:
- PhD in a relevant discipline and/or demonstrable equivalent experience/qualifications
- Demonstrable experience of carrying out research using evidence-informed approaches
- Experience of working in higher education contexts and demonstrable understanding of the current challenges facing the sector
- Experience of working with diverse datasets
- Highly developed computing skills and familiarity with a wide range of business software packages
- Outstanding oral and written communications skills with evidence of ability to communicate complex ideas to a range of stakeholders
