The position of IT Analyst I in Information Technology Security & Policy is responsible for helping safeguard the integrity of Louisiana State University’s information resources and the privacy of its user community. This position monitors the LSU network and systems activity to ensure the safe and secure operation of the network and responds to information security-related questions and inquiries using established information security tools and procedures.
Analyst 1 Job Responsibilities:
Operations: Assists with investigations of security alerts and security incidents on premise and in the cloud. Assists with responding to specific threats such as malware, phishing, and exploitation identified by various security platforms. Monitors logs to detect and remediate compromised user accounts and systems. Assists in assessing the security posture for LSU accounts, data, servers, endpoints, and network.
Assists in vulnerability management activities. Creates and maintains documentation for internal systems, processes, and procedures. (45%)
Support: Serves as an Information Security resource for ITS and the University community. Serves as incident responder as needed. (20%)
Support: Assists with maintenance of Information Security owned systems (including Windows, Linux, and Virtual Appliances), security toolsets, and applications. (15%)
Research: Stays informed of current threats and mitigation options in order to make appropriate recommendations to campus community. Researches and demos new security toolsets. Evaluates and tests new security configurations. Discovers ways to improve and optimize current processes and procedures. (10%)
Other duties as assigned. (10%)
Analyst 2 Job Responsibilities:
Operations: Analyzes, investigates, and directs reports of technology abuse and security incidents on premise and in the cloud. Identifies, analyzes, and coordinates the response to specific threats such as malware, phishing, and exploitation identified by various security platforms. Monitors logs to detect and remediate compromised user accounts and systems. Collaborates with ITS staff and departmental information technology professionals to make decisions or recommendations concerning security posture for LSU accounts, data, servers, endpoints, and network.
Assists in vulnerability management activities. Creates and maintains documentation for internal systems, processes, and procedures. (35%)
Support: Maintains, updates, and troubleshoots Information Security owned systems (including Windows, Linux, and Virtual Appliances), security toolsets and applications, and configurations for Software as a Service platforms. (25%)
Support: Serves as an Information Security resource for ITS and the University community. Serves as incident responder as needed. (20%)
Research: Stays informed of current threats and mitigation options in order to make appropriate recommendations to campus community. Researches and demos new security toolsets. Evaluates and tests new security configurations. Discovers ways to improve and optimize current processes and procedures. (10%)
Other duties as assigned. (10%)
Minimum Qualifications:
Analyst 1-
Bachelor’s degree with work experience in Windows and/or Linus systems administration, cloud-based technologies, information security, network security, and/or operations security.
Analyst 2-
Bachelor’s degree with 2 years work experience in Linux systems administration, cloud-based technologies, information security, network security, and/or operations security.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree with 3 years experience with management of Linux based systems. Experience with scripting and automation technologies. Experience on a security incident response team, or experience on a security operations center.
Special Requirements:
Per University Policy Statement 18 this position is deemed essential to campus operations and will be required to report to or remain on campus during times of emergency or closure.
