The University Library
The University of Groningen Library (UB) is the information hub of the University of Groningen (UG). As a centre of expertise and service provision, the UB is innovative, professional, and customer-oriented. The UB capitalizes on IT to boost the availability of information, promote research at the UG, and make academic work and knowledge open and accessible for future generations. The UB helps to enhance student success rates by providing facilities that are tailored to suit students’ needs.
The Library’s department of Education Support is offering a unique combined position of information/data specialist and data steward at the University Library. The education support team is a team of professionals providing education support services in the areas of information literacy, copyright, collection development and open educational resources.
The University of Groningen Digital Competence Centre (DCC)
The Digital Competence Centre is a collaboration of the University Library (UB) and the Centre for Information Technology (CIT) and aims to be the one stop support centre for research IT and data. The DCC functions as a front office, a network and a training centre for all researchers and research supporters of the UG. The DCC supports research centrally, but decentrally as well, with consultants (data stewards) who frequently visit the faculties and research institutes.
Job description
As an information and data specialist/data steward, you will have complementary roles in the support of data management and data usage in both education and research.
Your position will be as a University Library information and data specialist for the faculties of Economics and Business and Spatial Sciences. For approximately one third of your tasks you will operate within the Digital Competence Center of the University.
Within the department of Education Support, your tasks as an information and data specialist will include:
? acting as the first point of contact for questions and requests about the UB collection for the faculties of Spatial Sciences and Economics and Business and representing the interests – in the area of information provision – for both faculties
? acting as the Faculty liaison officer for researchers/lecturers
? offering functional and content support for the most used data sources (for example: Eikon, SDC, WRDS, Orbis and Boardex)
? providing informational material and workshops to students and/or teachers on the use of data files
? developing, providing and maintaining information/informational materials via the UB website and/or the Library Guides
? testing and evaluating new resources in terms of content and functionality
? working closely together with license management staff in coordinating, adjusting and evaluating parts of the digital collection
? giving advice to the Library Committee in terms of collection building and data files.
Within the Digital Competence Centre, your tasks as a data steward will include:
? informing, supporting and training researchers in the area of managing privacy-sensitive data, before, during and after the research process
? advising and assisting in data management plans, measures for data protection and procedures surrounding the ethical assessment of research proposals
? mapping best practices for the protection of personal data
? linking faculty research support and the central data stewards
? maintaining close connections with the privacy team at the central legal department and the faculties.
Qualifications
Who you are
You are a curious, proactive person with good networking skills. You are passionate about problem solving and helping teachers, researchers and students. You are aware of the latest developments in information provision.
You have:
? a university degree in economics or business (MSc level or higher)
? excellent verbal and written skills in both Dutch and English
? excellent consultancy skills
? experience in working with data files in the area of business economics
? past experience with project-based work or the willingness to train for this (PRINCE2 Foundation)
? experience with the functional management of ICT systems is an advantage
? experience with/affinity with Eikon is an advantage.
The following competences are important for this position: analytical skills, customer orientation, entrepreneurship, environmental awareness, communication skills, persuasive abilities and result orientation.
Conditions of employment
We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:
? a salary, depending on qualifications and experience to a maximum of € 4,670 (salary scale 10) gross per month for a full-time position
? a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance
? an appointment of 0.8 FTE for the duration of one year. After the agreed end date – depending on the outcome of the Result & Development interview and other (internal) circumstances – this employment may be converted into an employment contract for an indefinite period.
