Infant Feeding Research Coordinator

Job Description:

This position will support the work of the seed project funded by the Legoretta Cancer Center at Brown University.  This coordinator will oversee the work of this project including the creation of a tailored online video and newsletter intervention addressing breastfeeding/infant feeding adapting the previous Baby’s Breath project, and including tailored previous smoking/smoke exposure content. The structure for recruitment and evaluation of the new intervention will also be established. This position will continue to support the work of conducing a pilot study of the new intervention when funding for continuation is secured.

The coordinator will oversee the revitalization of the previous Baby’s Breath video segment library and creation of new video segments, and algorithms for creating the tailored videos. This will include interaction with students and external contractors. This position will also work to re-establish the essential Baby’s Breath survey and other data collection tools necessary for the evaluation and IRB protocol.

Competence and comfort working with people who are pregnant or recently delivered, breastfeeding and newborn babies. Flexible part-time work from home opportunities are available.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 6/30/2023, which may be extended based upon available funding.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • Required:  BS/BA in public health, psychology or related field

  • Preferred:  Masters of Public Health, or related field

  • Preferred:  Expertise or experience in Maternal and Child Health clinical or public health programs.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of research experience (post BA/BS-experience preferred)

  • Community-based participatory research preferred

  • Comfort and experience working with people who are in anti-natal care, lower-resourced communities, racial and ethnic minorities, and other key populations and marginalized groups

  • Experience and comfort working with diverse student and professional staff with varying educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds

  • Knowledge of basic human subjects research procedures including quantitative data collection (surveys); qualitative data collection (interviews); developing study materials; and creating an IRB protocol

  • Excellent verbal presentation skills, interpersonal skills, and written communication skills

  • Ability to talk about sensitive topics in a mature and discrete manner

  • Must possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.

Preferred

  • Experience with video editing software, Microsoft Publisher

  • Fluent in Spanish (written and oral)
