Scientist – Indigenous Forestry

Based in Rotorua
Who are we?
Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, including indigenous forestry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts, and energy, and the establishment of a broader based bioeconomy. We are a Crown Research Institute dedicated to forestry and is home to more than 300 science and support staff on its two main campuses in Rotorua and Christchurch. About the role
Working closely with Industry, Iwi and Government departments this role provides an opportunity to deliver science that contributes to better environmental, social and economic outcomes for NZ. In this role you will be providing expertise and support to the Plant Development and Physiology Team and work closely with wider research groups within Scion to develop and lead research in indigenous forestry and the role of forestry in local economic development. You will also lead and advocate discussions with national and international agencies such as NZ CRI’s, Government Departments (MPI, MfE, DOC etc.), Regional and Local Authorities, other research providers (CRIs, Universities), and attend national and international conferences.
This is an exciting role, providing an opportunity to develop great science in an area with so much growth and potential. An opportunity to open doors and set great minds thinking about the role of sustainable indigenous forestry, not just in New Zealand but also for the international stage.
