Human Resources Service Partner

In accordance with the Handbook of Terms and Conditions of Employment for Management and Professional Staff (Excluded) , this full-time continuing position offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits  and annual salary range of $65,348 – $108,916.

Location – Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton.

Position summary

Reporting to a Senior HR Service Partner, the HR Service Partners are responsible for the delivery of human resource solutions and advice to the leaders, faculty and staff within their client portfolios across faculties and service units. Drawing on your vast experience you will act as a professional advisor to the dean, faculty general manager, or other senior leaders within your portfolio. You will collaborate with your fellow service partners, the centers of expertise (COE’s) within HRHSE and the Shared Services Centre to foster collaborative relationships, leading and delivering on strategic initiatives while managing a large breadth of client services. You will drive forward-thinking change by modeling the essence of client-focused HR service.

As part of the University of Tomorrow transition, Human Resource (HR) services at the University are transforming. Our HR Service Partners are currently supporting clients and the HRHSE department to build and operationalize parts of the new centralized model. As we work towards our intended future state, HR Service Partners will be required to work in a changing environment and may be asked to temporarily support and/or action transactional work while we continue to move into our intended future state.

In the end state HR Service Partner role, you will leverage your position as an integrated resource and subject matter expert to understand your client’s goals and objectives and apply a strategic problem solving and consultative mindset to deliver the following:

Duties:

  • Provide HR advice and implement solutions for your clients to best support their academic, teaching and service missions.
  • Ensure the operationalization of HR services within your client groups.
  • Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with your fellow service partners, the HRHSE COE’s and the Shared Service Centre to ensure you are able to advocate for your clients and deliver solutions necessary to meet their business needs.
  • Actively participate on your client’s leadership teams to proactively identify HR concerns, needs, challenges and opportunities and work closely with the faculty general manager or department manager to deliver effective solutions.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with your clients, acting as a first point of contact on all operational and strategic HR matters.
  • Analyze clients’ business needs and make recommendations to COEs to ensure programs and services evolve to meet organizational needs.
  • Support an effective institution-wide human resource community that fosters best practices and integrated, responsive, client-focused services.
  • Provide input into University, college, faculty, unit and HRHSE strategic planning processes and HR program development.
  • Under the guidance of Employee and Labour Relations and/or Faculty Relations, implement effective employee/labour relations procedures, counsel clients on employee relations matters, conduct investigations and recommend plans of action.
  • Provide advice and guidance to clients on the application of collective agreements, policy and procedure.
  • Partner with teams from Organizational, Design and Talent in organizational and job design initiatives and provide advice to clients on compensation, organizational development and job design.
  • Provide support to the recruitment of key leadership and staff positions at the faculty or department level, supporting clients in attracting and building diversity within their portfolios and ensuring equity within new appointments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Related university degree and/or Human Resources diploma/ certificate
  • 3+ years experience as a Human Resource Business Partner/Consultant in a large, multi-union environment managing multiple priorities, deadlines and deliverables
  • Experience coaching and supporting leaders through employee issues such as progressive discipline, terminations and layoffs, safety violations and performance issues
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations
  • Evolved problem solving and critical thinking skills to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, assess consequences of proposed actions, choose the most appropriate solution and implement successfully
  • Flexibility, adaptability and resiliency in ambiguous and complex situations
  • Fluency in French, both spoken and written is an asset
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered
  • Understanding of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and the role the subject plays within the practices of human resources
