RAs covering Fall Break Duty will be on duty for a 24-hour time: from 8:00 pm until 8:00 pm the next day.
RAs who are on Fall Break Duty will remain near campus for the entire 24-hour time they have been scheduled for.
RAs will conduct one duty walk for their assigned building(s) anytime between 8pm – 10pm.
While on duty, you may leave to get food. However, it must be within a 15-min radius, and you cannot be away for more than one hour. If you get a call while out, you must respond to the call and let the resident know you will be there within 15 minutes.
RAs understand they may be assigned to a community they do not currently live in and may have to commute to the building or spend the night in an assigned space.
RAs must always carry with them their designated community’s or communities’ duty phone while on duty and respond immediately to any calls they receive.
RAs are responsible for setting up an in person “hand off” to the person who will be on duty for the next day. The duty phone cannot be left unattended at any time.
RAs should submit their Holiday Duty log after each 24-hour shift by 8pm, before the phone is passed off. Please use the Holiday Duty form created on Roompact.
There will be a Professional Staff (LISOD) member on duty during the Fall Break who can be contacted via the main campus duty phone at 714-215-0878.
You must complete the required student employment application (online) and paperwork for this specific position to work during Fall Break.
If you have another job on campus, you cannot work that other job during your duty shift.
RAs will be paid for working hours between 8:00pm-8:00am, $15 an hour for non-premium days, and $18 an hour for premium days. If you receive a phone call that you must physically respond to (lockout, emergency, etc.), you will be paid for two hours (regardless of actual length) of that time between 8:00am-8:00pm.
RAs must understand they may be required to phone multiple phones for different communities and do multiple duty walks. If RAs are required to hold more than one phone at a time, they will be paid the premium rate of $18 per hour between 8:00pm-8:00am.
Duty switches must be coordinated with another holiday duty RA and requested for approval to the Holiday Duty professional staff or LISOD at least 48-hours in advance. If it is an immediate emergency, contact LISOD.
Failure to follow any of these procedures may result in job action and/or loss or privileges to sign up for Holiday Duty in the future.
RAs should understand this position is optional, and by signing the below document, they understand the responsibilities and requirements they are agreeing to.
