We are seeking a full-time Heavy Mechanic Supervisor II in Torrington to repair and maintain a safe, high-quality equipment fleet and oversee the total operation of the mechanic shop.This position offers:

- Directs operations of shop crew in maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles, including fabrication of new equipment.
- Supervises the total operation of the mechanics’ shop.
- Assists with evaluating equipment in the shop area for the equipment budget.
- Gives guidance and counsel to employees to meet goals.
- Researches change in technology and educates subordinates about new applications and procedures.
- Facilitates dialog with other programs to ensure efficiency.
QualificationsPREFERENCES:Preference will be given to candidates who possess a Class A CDL.
Preference will be given to candidates with a Welding Certification.
Preference may be given to individuals who have completed any equipment certification exams.KNOWLEDGE:
- Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Word, Excel, and Google.
- High level of mechanical ability; ability to use various hand and power tools; ability to troubleshoot multiple mechanical issues.
- Ability to gas and arc weld and cut.
- Knowledge of automotive maintenance and repair methods, including diesel-powered engines.
- Understand electronic principles and how to use diagnostic tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals (schematics) and other information dealing with areas of expertise. Complete understanding of and skills to assess a given situation and decide the best option for the situation.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and determine the proper course of action to effect repairs.
- Possess leadership skills and interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with customers, vendors, and shop workers.
- Work with other departments and agencies with equipment specifications and needs; be flexible in meeting shop and customer requests.
- Set example, direct actions, focus, and guide co-workers/employees to the task at hand.
- Ability to communicate the accomplishments of the shop and equipment needs and failures promptly and consistently to the District Equipment Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Management)Experience:0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Heavy Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Heavy Mechanic Supervisor ICertificates, Licenses, Registrations:Ability to obtain and maintain a CDLOREducation & Experience Substitution:4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Heavy Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Heavy Mechanic Supervisor ICertificates, Licenses, Registrations:Ability to obtain and maintain a CDLNecessary Special RequirementsPHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This position must work under inclement weather conditions, including heat, cold, snow, and wet conditions.
- The ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds safely and dexterity with hands are all required to perform effectively in this position physically.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
- Individuals in this classification must be available for emergency work calls at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with a response time to the Shop of no greater than 30 minutes. Acceptance of an appointment to this classification signifies the individual is aware of this requirement and will comply with it.

- This position includes a $100/month tool allowance.
- Hand tools are required and must be furnished by the employee.
