What You Will Do

The Artificial Heart Laboratory in the Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering, under the supervision of Prof. James Antaki, is developing and conducting research related to heart-assist devices, particularly for children. They are seeking a highly competent, organized, and versatile laboratory technician to assist research and development projects related to heart-assist devices.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Assembling, calibrating, testing, and troubleshooting electro-mechanical assemblies and systems.

Operating and maintaining 3D printers, keeping inventory of lab supplies and equipment.

Assuring compliance with lab safety requirements.

Providing technical support to graduate students.

What We Need

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field such as mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering.

• At least four years of experience in testing, debugging, and repairing electromechanical assemblies.

• At least one year experience with general laboratory practices, equipment, and instruments.

• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.

• Proficiency with hand tools, electronic measuring equipment, and soldering.

• Competence with Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Familiarity with lab safety protocols and procedures.

• Good organizational skills.

What We Prefer

• Proficiency in 3D mechanical design (Autodesk, Solidworks).

• Expertise with electrical circuits, microcontroller design and integration (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc), and software tools (LabView, Matlab, etc).

• Experience with 3D printing.

• Experience with fluidic circuits (pumps, tubing, connectors, etc).

• Experience with machine shop equipment including laser cutter, milling machine, lathe, and vacuum casting.

• Experience with precision assembly and inspection.

• Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

• Experience with blood handling.
