As a member of the Health & Safety team, you will be instrumental in creating and sustaining a culture of safety to our campuses, classrooms, and activities. Through the use of your subject matter expertise and your superior communication skills, you will coach our employees in safe work practices and help them incorporate these skills in their day to day world. You will be leading CapU’s safety programs, including: Ergonomics, Floor Warden, Contractor Safety, Safety Training, Violence Prevention, Injury, and Investigation programs. This will involve delivering training and drills; auditing, inspecting and investigating; assessing safety factors; and consulting qualified persons. We are looking for someone to help us continue to build our culture of safety and exceptional experiences for our employee and student community. You will work with a team of talented Health & Safety department, an engaged community and an impactful executive team.

What you’ll do 

  • Acting as an expert information resource and coach to Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committees, employees, and leaders, in the interpretation and application of internal safety standards, and external OHS regulations; including subject matters where situations are unique, complex or involve potentially higher risk.
  • Developing, health and safety policies, and safe work procedures in consultation with management, including protocols for Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) audits and safety inspections.
  • Monitoring and enforcing safety adherence to University’s Safety Management System by all employees as well as contractors.

What you’ll bring• Education, training and experience equal to post-secondary education with at least a Certificate from an accredited OHS school or relevant field.

  • At least 3 years of recent related experience in Occupational Health & Safety and/or relevant trades experience within an intermediate to large organization. (Experience in providing these services in a in a post-secondary setting will be seen as an asset.)
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety legislation and standards.

Required Licences, Certificates & Regitrations:

  • Tickets in: Confined Space, Fall Protection, Arial Platforms, and Occupational First Aid Level 1 are considered an asset
  • Professional designation such as (CRSP, CHSO or CHSC) are considered an asset
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence Class 5
