Health, Safety and Wellness Advisor

  • Full-time permanent position

  • HEW level 8 – $102,270 – $114,835 plus 17 % superannuation

About This Opportunity 

This position works as part of the HSW Governance and Strategy team reporting to the Deputy Director. Generally, this role will deliver advice, monitor performance, and provide assistance to the HSW network and senior management to reduce harm to people, and streamline compliance requirements relating to HSW.

Primarily, this role will be responsible for matters related to the HSW internal audit program, HSW workplace inspection program, and the enterprise HSW risk register program, including the development of resources and delivery of training to support these programs.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

HSW audit, inspection, and risk programs

  • Lead auditor of the UQ HSW internal audit program, ensuring the conduct of effective, value-adding audits across UQ’s operations and sites

  • Facilitate and support the implementation and monitoring of the HSW workplace inspection program in consultation and collaboration with the HSW network

  • Develop and review UQ’s enterprise HSW Risk Register in consultation with the HSW network, senior management and UQ Governance and Risk

Health, Safety and Wellness Division leadership

  • Actively contribute to the management of the HSW Division.

  • Contribute to the development of enterprise HSW strategic and operational planning.

  • Participate in and drive the implementation of the UQ Health, Safety and Wellness Strategy.

Provision of specialist advice and services

  • Support UQ HSW governance and consultative mechanisms – provide support to the UQ community on all aspects of HSW.

  • Contribute to UQ’s OHS management system – provide insight and advice on its effectiveness to the UQ Community.

  • Facilitate risk management processes at UQ – provide advice and guidance that contributes to the understanding of the risk profile of Faculties, Institutes and Divisions.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of HSW programs and systems that are innovative, effective and reduce compliance burden.

  • Provide advice, information and HSW services to the UQ Community.

  • Monitor HSW performance and use data driven reports to provide proactive advice to Faculties, Institutes and Divisions to drive improvements in performance.

  • Develop HSW capability across the UQ Community.

  • Participate in HSW incident investigations.

  • Engage with regulators and stakeholders as required.

About You

To be considered for this role you will have experience in managing corporate level health and safety risk management processes, in addition they will also have

Essential criteria:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications in health and safety or auditing, or a related discipline, and extensive relevant experience; or 3 years related experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. 

  • Experience in the management and integration of a constructive auditing system, along with extensive auditing experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to gather, analyse and interpret data to produce succinct, definitive, well-written and compelling reports.

  • Demonstrated effective stakeholder communication, management planning and implementation to manage complex issues in a calm and clear manner.

  • A sound record of effective collaboration, engagement and partnership with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.

Desirable criteria:

  • OHS Management Systems lead Auditor qualifications in accordance with ISO 19011 and/or ISO 45001.

What We Can Offer 

This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW 8.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $102,270.20 to $114,835.63, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $119,656.13 to $134,357.69 per annum.
