Together with more than 750 colleagues, you will actively contribute to making this world a healthier place.Discover Impactful Work:The Head of Operational Excellence will develop and implement practical improvement initiatives to meet or exceed the key performance indicators for the Linz site. Using your curious nature will work in collaboration with the site leadership team to identify those high value opportunities that will make a real difference to the site and drive towards even higher efficiencies.A day in the Life:

  • Develops plans to address strategic priorities of the site and shortcomings and monitors progress of improvement efforts, in line with Divisional and API BU strategies and site requirements
  • Responsible for the implementation of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s continuous Improvement Business System (PPI), collaborate with the Site Leadership Team (SLT) and steering committees to mature the Lean Management System (tiered daily management systems, Gemba walks and leader standard work)
  • Lead with functional teams to streamline processes to improve customer experience (CAS), enable profitable growth and improve efficiency
  • Provides status updates to the site leadership team on the results of the practical process improvement initiatives and identifies any potential obstacles that may require site leadership interventions
  • Measures and reports on key performance indicators (leading and lagging) at site level; develops and implements effective corrective action plans in conjunction with functional managers to address any areas of concern
  • Acts as a liaison with Finance to update monthly financial statements to reflect benefits of practical process improvement initiatives
  • Deploys resources to conduct diagnostics and support implementation activities
  • Deploys system to standardize practical process improvement best practices within the site as defined
  • Collaborates with colleagues and stakeholders to develop and execute a practical process improvement plan that supports site, business unit, and company strategies
  • Develops annual and long-term practical process improvement roadmaps to drive continuous improvement
  • Keeps abreast of industry trends and technology that can drive practical process improvement and shares best practices to drive step-function changes
  • Ensures long-term sustainability of practical process improvement initiatives within a site
  • Manages, coaches, and develops change leaders within a site

Keys to Success:
Education

  • University degree in Science, Life Science or Engineering Field
  • Experience
  • 10+ years of operational excellence experience in a highly-regulated industry (examples: Pharma, Automotive, Aerospace, Food and Drug) Multiple industries experience; Prior experience in Operations in API / CDMO / Pharma industry is a plus
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training and relevant work experience may be considered Strong leadership capabilities and a charismatic personality
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification (Black Belt)
  • Strength in communication and presentation
  • Fluency in English and good German skills

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategy and coach and drive the execution at multiple level of the organization
  • Strong influential skills and change management experience possibly developed in multiple countries and industries
  • Deep knowledge of OE tools implemented in several contexts
  • Strong results orientation, ability to bring solutions to pitfalls
  • Ability to lead and facilitate events, from shopfloor kaizen with operators to top management workshops
  • Drive and sustain OE initiatives
  • Strong motivating skills, energy and passion for OE
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams to deliver against challenging objectives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • The payment takes place according to the collective agreement of the Austrian Chemical Industry. The annual base gross salary for this position is at least € 80.433,64 and will be overpaid according to qualifications and professional experience.
