This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding, successful and multidisciplinary School of Health Sciences.  The School is a dynamic and diverse academic community, with a strong track record of delivering excellent education at undergraduate, taught postgraduate and research postgraduate levels. We are at the heart of a vibrant and diverse community and have a proud tradition of championing educational opportunities for all.

We are proud of our established position as a provider of Paramedic and Operating Department Practice (ODP) education in the Midlands and our ODP provision in the South West.  We are therefore seeking a Head of Department to continue the development of our ODP and Paramedic provision, working with an excellent team.  As Head of Department, you will provide leadership across all the department activities, ensuring that students, staff and partners are able to benefit from the Department progression and success. Importantly you will also develop a vision to enhance our provision and further develop our research. You will be a member of School Management Team, working alongside our enthusiastic senior team.

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to this crucial role, with an in-depth knowledge of pre-registration allied health education and the wider policy landscape. You will have an understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the disciplines and the sector, and will have the passion to move the Department in to its next stage of development.

You will have had appropriate experience of working within ODP or Paramedic Science and Higher Education, and will have enjoyed success in leading and motivating teams.  You must be educated to post-graduate level and should have or be working towards a PhD/Doctorate, and you will be able to demonstrate the capacity to make a valuable contribution to the body of practice-based research in the discipline.  The successful applicant will be an HCPC registered Allied Health Professional, typically an ODP or Paramedic, with extensive experience of relevant clinical practice and in the delivery of education and training, to join our committed team of academics.

The School of Health Sciences is particularly interested in hearing from applicants from the ethnically diverse communities in our region and those with disabilities within our society.  We seek to ensure our programme team includes representatives of our diverse student group.  We actively encourage applications from people from diverse backgrounds and the communities we work with.

The School of Health Sciences at Birmingham City University is a dynamic and diverse academic community, with a track record of delivering excellent education and achieving high graduate employability across our disciplines. The campus provides a modern, vibrant learning environment which houses superb facilities, including a new resuscitation suite, simulation operating theatre and post-anaesthetic care suite, training ambulance, medical ultrasound rooms, teaching and research laboratories, clinical simulation facilities, a sports therapy clinic, nutrition science labs, subject specific classrooms equipped with the latest teaching technology, a biomedical engineering lab and a sports hall. Across the Faculty we have a wide range of courses in pre and post registration health professions, education, social work, life sciences, and sport.
