The University of Miami is currently seeking a Haz Mat Technician to work at Rosenstiel Medical Science Building in Miami. The incumbent assists with the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and universal waste. Moreover, this person monitors compliance of fuel storage tanks, implements waste minimization and recycling, monitors compliance of biomedical waste disposal, provides emergency response for chemical releases, and trains University personnel.

CORE JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                   

The Haz Mat Technician assists with the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and universal waste. Moreover, the incumbent monitors compliance of fuel storage tanks, implements waste minimization and recycling, monitors compliance of biomedical waste disposal, provides emergency response for chemical releases, and trains University personnel.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS       

  • Picks up waste and surplus chemicals from generating laboratories and facilities and delivers to assigned regulated storage areas.
  • Performs weekly inspection of the regulated hazardous and universal waste storage areas.
  • Maintains and controls supplies required for hazardous material management and emergency response.
  • Performs quarterly reviews of all storage tank inspection logs and associated monitoring systems.
  • Monitors and complies with hazardous, universal, and biomedical waste disposal procedures.
  • Conducts clearance inspections for departing University employees.
  • Responds to emergency chemical releases, odor complaints, and other safety concerns.
  • Conducts training per environmental regulations for University faculty, staff, and students.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
