Description
Under the supervision of a Hatchery Manager and Assistant Hatchery Manager, will provide manual and technical assistance to ensure efficient and successful culture of various species and number of fish. Assist in brood stock collections and management, spawning, incubating, and hatching of eggs. Feed and maintain fingerlings, and transfer and distribute various sizes and species of fish. Requires handling and application of chemicals for proper maintenance of pond conditions (temperature, dissolved oxygen levels, ph levels, plankton population levels, etc.), to help guard against parasite and disease problems, and provide pest and weed control. Other duties include maintaining buildings and grounds and equipment in good condition and working order. Collect, prepare and submit accurate data and reports on all phases of work. Perform other duties as required by the Supervisor. Work will occasionally require periods away from residence.
Qualifications
Education: Associates Degree or a minimum of two years college to include course work in Aquatic Resource Management or closely related field. Four years’ experience in a Fisheries Conservation Technician position may substitute for education requirements.

Experience: One-year related experience. A total of five years’ experience is required in lieu of education requirement. A completed Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management with an emphasis in Aquatic Resource Management or related field may substitute for the experience requirement.

Knowledge and Skills: Must have knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of fish and wildlife management. Understand basic farming operations and equipment use and basic supervision principles. Must have skills in exercising good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions. Be proficient in use of computers and various software applications. Have knowledge and competence in use of small hand tools and carpentry tools.
