6:30 am – 3:00 pm; Monday – Friday with occasional overtime hours required. This position is designated as ‘mandatory’ and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions. |
| Primary Purpose of Position |
Provides the continual oversight of Campus Wide Renovation Landscape and Beautification Projects including trees, shrubs, ground covers, coordination of annual and perennial plantings and other associated materials, and initial maintenance throughout Campus. |
| Minimum Education/Experience |
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in trade(s) areas assigned; or equivalent combination of training and experience. University Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from a technical college with a major in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology and a minimum of three years progressive experience in facility maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
| Essential Job Duties |
The Grounds Landscape Project Supervisor performs under the direction of the Grounds Superintendent. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provides the continual oversight of Campus Wide Renovation Landscape & Beautification Projects including trees, shrubs, ground covers, coordination of annual and perennial plantings and other associated materials, and initial maintenance throughout Campus.
- Provides oversight for Contract & Vendor Management and coordination and to the Greenhouse & other plant production areas.
- Provides the overall reviews and scheduling of landscape installations and other projects.
- Provides project reviews, documentation, tracking, scheduling, and follow-up with staff, designers, project managers, and consultants.
- Provides oversight of several staff members including the Horticulturist, Beatification Coordinator / Greenhouse Manager, installation crew members, and other assigned staff members.
- Organize, coordinate, supervise and control grounds maintenance operations, landscaping, lawn mower operations, and IPM functions of Facilities Management for the campus community as needed.
- Oversee Renovation Landscape Project Management as directed.
- Provide specialized landscape maintenance, installations, designs, and implementations.
- Provides renovated landscape designs for campus areas as needed and acts as the renovation coordinator for landscape installation projects.
- Distribute and supervise written work/job orders making specific job statements of materials and labor, including preparing purchase requisitions for supplies and materials for scheduled work.
- Establish and conduct training programs for subordinate personnel in safety, horticulture, turf maintenance, and equipment operations.

- Provides coordination of various facility maintenance operational, diagnostic, and repair services.
- Maintain duel responsibilities of Grounds Supervisor I and Landscape Project Coordinator throughout Campus.

| Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- Associates degree with a major in horticulture science, ornamental horticulture, landscape design, or a closely related field or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
- Three years of horticultural or grounds experience with supervisory experience.
- Three years of progressive experience involving a wide variety of landscape and horticultural experiences as might be gained in the development and maintenance of large parks or institutional grounds, or in managing or supervising commercial landscape enterprises or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge and experience with Landscape designs and installation practices, techniques, and equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with managing small to large landscape projects from start to finish, and associated budget management experience.
- Knowledge of and ability to use and maintain materials, related instruments, and equipment necessary for the position, including mowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, weed eaters and loaders, etc. Operate equipment with dexterity and safety.
- Ability to set mid to long-range maintenance goals and objectives and prioritize activities and tasks; prepare alternative plans to meet changing conditions and ensure timely task accomplishment.
- Computer literacy required. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications, and willing to learn new programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with oversight of small to large-scale Renovation Landscape and Beautification Projects including trees, shrubs, ground covers, coordination of annual and perennial plantings and other associated materials, and initial maintenance.

- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Renovation Landscape Project Management & coordination.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with specialized landscape maintenance, installations, designs, and implementations, including providing general renovated landscape designs for small- and large-scale areas.
- Demonstrated ability to distribute and supervise written work/job orders making specific job statements of materials and labor, including preparing purchase requisitions for supplies and materials for scheduled work as well as ability to provide effective written communications for subordinate personnel as required.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and conduct training programs for subordinate personnel in safety, horticulture, turf maintenance, and equipment operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in coordinating a wide variety of facility maintenance operational, diagnostic, and repair services.

| Necessary Licenses or Certifications |
- Valid – NC Drivers license.
- NC Landscape Contractor’s License or ability to receive one within six months of hire date.
- Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
