JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Gittlen Laboratories for Cancer Research, in Hershey, PA at seeking a Grants and Proposal Generalist. This is a research administration unit providing support for 7 PhD and MD/PhD cancer researchers and 32 staff.  We are looking for a dynamic Grants and Awards Generalist to assist the researchers in their grant submissions. This position is a complex, detailed, multifaceted position working in a unique environment. The selected individual’s job responsibilities will include but are not limited to reviewing, analyzing, and processing proposals, contracts, and grants from various federal, state, local agencies and private corporations and foundations. This includes the preparation of budgets, collection of all materials needed for grant submission from many sources, keeping track of and enforcing grant submission deadlines, and advising faculty and staff in interpreting and adhering to sponsor and University guidelines and regulations. Post-award duties such as setting up the award, monitoring expenses, monthly spreadsheets are shared with the Controller’s Office.  Typical office duties of answering phones, mail, helping all who come through our door are also a part of this position.

Must have excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, who is capable of working both independently and as a team player. Attention to detail, the ability to keep track of tasks and respond professionally in challenging situations is essential. Training and support are available to instruct and guide this candidate to be a successful employee. Understanding finances as well as experience with MS Office is required. Knowledge of our grants submission systems SIMS and Cayuse as well as our financial system SIMBA are a plus.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding. 

The following clearances must be successfully completed for this position:  

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check  
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
