Purpose

To assist in executing a strategic fundraising effort for the Blanton’s annual operations, restricted programs, capital projects, and other special initiatives, with direct responsibility for supporting development projects and goals by providing general writing and editing support for grants, grant reports, impact reports, internal communications, letters, acknowledgements, and other materials that support fundraising and stewardship. As a member of the development team, this position will work collaboratively across the museum to support the department’s revenue goals. This position reports to, and works closely with, the Blanton’s director of development.

Responsibilities

  • Draft acknowledgement letters and correspondence.
  • Manage the production of all reports on donor-supported activity, including preparation, editing, and organizing of materials for the annual endowment impact reports.
  • Compose and prepare proposals and supporting materials.
  • Writes grant proposals and manages grants through the full grant cycle from application to final report.
  • Coordinate and verify all donor listings and project credit lines for public distribution and recognition purposes, including production of the museum’s annual donor wall.
  • Prepare briefing memos and informational packets as needed for donor-related meetings the museum director, director of development, and other development team members participate in.
  • Perform research to help build a pipeline for grant development and increase the competitiveness of grant requests.
  • Oversee the Blanton’s participation in Amplify Austin, 40 for Forty, and other special giving campaigns.
  • Manage a comprehensive development calendar for the team to track stewardship and proposal deadlines.
  • Oversee stewardship-related donor mailings, mail merges, and emails via Mailchimp.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in specialized development work including researching and preparing grant proposals and fundraising materials.
  • Experience working in a museum, cultural, educational, or other non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies, including grant research resources.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills and ability to communicate organizational objectives in a clear and compelling manner, as well as the detailed plans required to achieve goals.
  • Ability to synthesize information.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Highly attentive to details, organized, and able to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working with complex budgets.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines; organize workflows and people.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team to produce quality work.
  • Self-directing and motivated with demonstrated ability to establish timelines and meet strict deadlines with minimum supervision and with accuracy.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate responsibly and professionally, internally and externally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a work style that values collaboration.
  • Strong judgment.
  • Strong computer and database skills.
  • Must be capable of working with sensitive information with complete confidentiality.

  • While prior grant writing and reporting experience is preferred, professional writing experience from other fields (e.g. marketing, communications) may also be considered.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of organizational giving experience.
  • Experience in an arts or education setting with grant writing.
  • Proven track record of successful grant research and writing.
  • Knowledge of the corporate, foundation, and government philanthropy landscape.
  • Existing fundraising relationships at the local, state, and/or national level and the ability to network.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced results-oriented environment.
  • Strong presentation skills.

Salary Range

$52,500 to $55,000
