Purpose

Responsible for exercising sound, independent judgment in the planning, development, submission, and ongoing monitoring of complex research and programmatic proposals. Provide comprehensive support for active awards, principal investigators, students, researchers and research support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist faculty, graduate students, and research staff with proposal development and submission, including preparation of budget, budget justification and other proposal materials, adherence to sponsor application guidelines and policies, and navigation of internal and external electronic submission interfaces.

  • Assist with creating, updating and communicating spending projections for Principal Investigators, troubleshoot issues with accounts, expenditures, fund transfers, tasks related to purchasing and personnel, as well as compliance and policy impacting sponsored research awards and other related tasks.

  • Enhance educational resources, training, and tools for individuals, departments, and units within the college, including outreach activities, internal resource development and improvement, and web-based content maintenance.

  • Identify and circulate grant opportunities, research news and events via a monthly college grants digest newsletter.

  • Manage internal research funding opportunities, limited submission competitions and related tasks and projects.

  • Handle special projects and perform other duties as assigned, with the goal of increasing responsibilities and fostering candidate’s professional growth and trajectory.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in the preparation and processing of sponsored research proposals and/or comprehensive post-award management. One to two years of experience working at an academic institution or equivalent. Ability to work in a diverse, team-oriented environment with sensitive and confidential information. Demonstrated self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat. Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and pay close attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work in a “high volume” office in which there are multiple deadlines. Experience working with federal agencies and foundations to support faculty with interpreting and adhering to sponsor guidelines. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated excellence in a university position that supports faculty and/or students. More than three years of experience in pre- and/or post- award research administration. Certified Research Administrator (CRA). Familiarity with University policies and procedures. Knowledge of UT Austin’s financial and/or research management systems, including *Define, FRMS, Workday, RMS and UT-RMS. Experience working with high volume grant proposals. Experience in using NSF’s Fastlane and/or Research.gov, Grants.gov and/or Cayuse, and other electronic research submission systems. Advanced organizational skills.

Salary Range

$55,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Monday – Friday, Flexible between 7:30am – 6pm, hybrid schedule to be determined upon offer.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
