Position Details

General Statement The Office of Sponsored Programs serves as the central administrative entity responsible for approving research proposals to federal, state and private sponsors for external research funding and implementing awards resulting from these proposals, including associated regulatory and financial requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities The Grant Manager coordinates administrative and accounting functions for pre and post research award activities by managing a defined portfolio of departmental research grants funds including the following responsibilities:
  • Proposal review, award review-negotiation and establishing the grant number.
  • Financial reporting, invoicing and payment management.
  • Allowable costs, transfers, and budget maintenance.
  • Agreement compliance and grant closeout process.
  • Providing excellent service to MSU faculty, staff and students by being proactive in avoiding and resolving problems.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Management, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Progressively responsible fiscal management level experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with standard administrative procedures and accounting principles, practices, and techniques.
  • High level of skill with Windows-based computer applications in financial management, business operations, project management, communications, and personal productivity.
  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in grants and contracts, especially federal.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations including OMB Uniform Guidance Circular.
  • Experience using Banner software in a university environment.
  • Certified Research Administrator from the RACC.
