Scholarship information

The Grady and Kathryn Gammage Scholarship honors the legacy of the former president of Arizona State University and his wife. Grady Gammage served as president from 1933 to 1959. His administration took the first steps toward ASU’s development of a modern university, a respected faculty, and research and doctoral programs. Under his leadership, ASU, then a college, attained university status.

After Dr. Gammage passed away in 1959, Kathryn became the university’s first full-time community relations employee. She served ASU for more than 25 years. In honor of Grady and Kathryn Gammage, this scholarship values breadth of intellectual vision and commitment to contributing to the lives of individuals and the well-being of the community.

The Gammage Endowment was established in 1984, and the first Gammage Scholars were selected in 1986. The scholarship is renewable for three additional years. Renewal is based on the successful completion of 24 credit hours each year with a 3.25 ASU cumulative GPA.

Four outstanding high school seniors are designated Grady and Kathryn Gammage Scholars each year. Only National Merit Semifinalists and Finalists, and/or College Board National Recognition Finalists are eligible to apply. Applicants must be admitted to both ASU and Barrett, The Honors College. In addition, recipients are selected on the basis of their academic record, university activities and community service.
