CTL Graduate Writing Support offers skilled, supportive writing instruction designed to foster student skills and confidence in order to enable all students to reach their full potential. Our approach to writing instruction is informed by our understanding of writing as a complex ability that is continuously learned and relearned in relation to changing contexts and purposes. Job Title: CTL Graduate Writing Instructor
Number of Positions: One
Size of Appointment (hours): 125 hours
Session: Summer 2024
Minimum Qualifications:
CTL’s Graduate Writing Support program favours applicants with a long-term interest in the three main aspects of the position: providing writing instruction for graduate students (especially in STEM or Social Science fields), facilitating group writing events, and developing/implementing workshops on writing-related topics.
Description of duties:
The instructor will work independently and in communication with the Coordinator of CTL Writing Support and with campus partners providing graduate programming.
For Summer 2024, one-to-one instruction may be on-campus or online, depending on student and instructor availability. We anticipate that all Just Writes will be held on campus. Workshops may be on-campus or online, depending on the needs of the unit requesting the workshop. Instructors should have access to a stable, high-speed internet line, a computer with a working webcam and microphone and a quiet workspace.

Writing Instructor I: $53.41 + vacation pay
Writing Instructor I-Long Term: $56.07 + vacation pay
Writing Instructor II: $57.42 + vacation pay
Writing Instructor II-Long Term: $58.58 + vacation pay
Writing Instructor II-Priority: $59.11 + vacation pay
Writing Instructor II-Priority Long Term: $60.29 + vacation pay
The Centre for Teaching and Learning reserves the right to make partial appointments.
This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.
It is understood that some announcements of vacancies are tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolment. Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Preference in hiring shall be given to persons holding the rank of Writing Instructor 2 and Writing Instructor 2 (Priority) who have been advanced to that status in the hiring Writing Centre (or, if advanced in another Writing Centre, who have additionally been employed for the required minimum number of hours in the hiring Writing Centre) in accordance with Article 16:11 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
