Graduate Teaching Assistant Business Manager – INTERNAL ONLY

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with significant knowledge of King’s Teachers and faculty operations to support the contract management and governance activities of King’s Teachers as part of the business-as-usual requirements. 

The Business Manager role will directly support of the Contract Manager and Chairs of the governance committees of King’s Teachers.  

They will do this primarily by: 

  • Utilising their strong data-skills to provide senior stakeholders and faculty representative with research, analysis of management information, insight and advice 
  • Utilising their strong process management skills to design and implement robust and effective processes to delivery of operational goals in line with business requirements. They will do this with an eye to the faculty’s internal and external interfaces, partnering with broader university services, adopting a continuous improvement mindset to improve and refine as they go, and encouraging and enabling that mindset throughout their team. 
  • Deploying their strong leadership skills to help embed the business-as-usual (BAU) governance arrangements and the culture changes needed to take King’s Teachers to the next stage of its development. 

The postholder will oversee all areas of the business activities relating to King’s Teachers, which includes contract management, finance analysis, information and data management and secretariat support of governance committees in preparing agendas and notes of meetings. 

This post will be offered on a secondment basis until 30th September 2023.

This is part-time post 60% FTE.

  • Ensure HR cases are resolved in line with the university’s policies and procedures within agreed timescales.   
  • Carry out investigations, collecting and testing evidence as appropriate.  
  • Ensuring comprehensive investigations and hearing outcome reports and other documentation as necessary is completed to a high standard, including investigation reports and interviews notes whilst being responsible for generating the associated reports and letters.  
  • Contribute towards the development of good practice in relation to case management, conflict resolution and mediation.  
  • Liaising with specialist legal counsel as appropriate.  
  • Managing, coordinating and participating in employment tribunals and associated legal fora.  
  • Act as a full panel member at hearings and on occasion chair such meetings when required.    
  • Liaise/negotiate with trade unions, legal representatives, other employee representatives and outside agencies.  
  • Case manage HR cases to ensure cases are appropriately prioritised within agreed timelines.    
  • Evaluate and identify case risk to advise senior leadership and management of the appropriate interventions for managing them within the organisation.  
  • Use quantitative and qualitative techniques to improve management of HR cases and suitable interventions.   
  • To research, collect and provide management information as required.  
  • To present training courses as required and coach managers in the use of HR policies and procedures, specifically to improve their competence and confidence in managing casework.   
  • To be an integrated member of the HR Team liaising closely with People Partners, the Organisational Development and the Diversity and Inclusion and Remuneration and Policy teams.  
  • Be the primary point of contact for 1) faculty queries and concerns relating to King’s Teachers and 2) contract related queries
  • Oversee all internal procedures and processes relating to King’s Teachers, including new developments
  • Assist the Contract Manager in reviewing King’s Teachers performance against key performance indicators and escalating any performance issues.  Advise the Contract Manager of any issues that might affect performance
  • Develop regular reports for key stakeholders to demonstrate performance
  • Support the establishment of clear and effective governance arrangements – from instituting new processes and procedures, through to the organisation of BAU governance committees
  • Assist the Contract Manager and Chair of the GTA Operations Group in identifying potential developments to maximise the efficiency of King’s Teachers
  • Continuously improve processes and procedures and promote a culture of continuous improvement to enhance the service delivery, effectiveness, and efficiency of King’s Teachers
  • Build collaborative and constructive relationships and networks with key stakeholders across the university that have an interest in King’s Teachers
  • Work closely with Keystone Employment Group’s Client Director and King’s Teachers Help Team to resolve issues, ensure that the King’s Teachers website is up to date and that information meets faculty and GTA requirements

2.       Highly numerate and literate with strong attention to detail; enjoys working with data and finding ways to present this information effectively to a wide-ranging audience, backed by strong IT skills

4.       Strong leadership skills; experience of leading and managing change and developing successful teams

5.       Significant experience of delivering an efficient and effective service to stakeholders

6.       Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact with a wide variety of people in a professional and assured manner; excellent written and spoken communication skills, with a high standard of English
