About the department:

You will be part of the Software Engineering team that develop, maintain, and support core Software Engineering systems.

This team focus on ensuring that systems are aligned with the business requirements of the University, are available for use as and when required, are secure to ensure integrity of data and information and developed to take advantage of technology developments and the requirements of the University.

This is an exciting time to join the University amid major institutional change initiatives including replacing the existing Human Resources and Finance system and are in the final stages of a major investment in student systems technologies as part of the student journey transformation programme. The Software Engineering team are critical to the success of both initiatives.

About the role:

This is a great opportunity to begin your IT career as part of a supportive, collaborative team.  Ensuring systems are continually reviewed and developed so they can continue to be more efficient and effective in a delivery focussed environment is at the core of this role.

Upon joining the team, you be trained and supported to enable you to undertake the following:

• Support and configure Estate and Facilities applications, and to establish requirements for system enhancements, producing technical requirements documentation when needed.
• You will support managers in gathering information which will drive future development and improvement priorities and coordinate system enhancements, liaising with suppliers and developing and testing software.
• Work with customers and suppliers to coordinate system maintenance and upgrades.
• Provide second line systems support and coordinate third line support from relevant suppliers and developers, pursuing appropriate escalation protocols when required.
• Provide solutions to technical problems and anticipate how those solutions might be applied to other aspects of service provision.
• Design, develop, configure, and test software to enhance or integrate systems.
• Actively participate in project and design meetings using knowledge of the business, existing systems, and processes to add value.

They must possess excellent planning skills with the ability to analyse complex situations, explore, evaluate, and recommend potential solutions.

A creative approach to problem solving which produces sound solutions meeting customer needs is also required.

You will have a knowledge and experience of computing coupled with a degree 1st/2.1 and keep up to date with emerging IT trends.
