JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Undergraduate Research and Fellowship Mentoring (URFM) is seeking applicants for one grade 15, half-time graduate assistantship in Spring 2023 with an excellent possibility for an extension.  URFM is the university’s clearinghouse for domestic and international fellowship opportunities, such as the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program, and the Rhodes Scholarship.  On behalf of Undergraduate Education, URFM also collaborates with the University Libraries to support students interested in learning about undergraduate research experiences.

We are looking for a graduate assistant to help with the planning and implementation of programming available for students interested in undergraduate research and creative activity.  The successful candidate will also coach and support students applying for fellowships and scholarships.  The position is approximately 20 hours a week, which includes occasional evening and weekend hours.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter, possess excellent organizational, writing, presenting, and analytical skills, and recognize that research and creative inquiry exist in every discipline.

Candidates must be full-time graduate students in a Ph.D. or combined master’s/Ph.D. program at Penn State’s University Park Campus and be in good academic and conduct standing with the university.  The ideal candidate has experience conducting research as an undergraduate or applying for undergraduate-level research and fellowship opportunities; can advise students from any disciplinary home across the university; and demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting research and creative inquiry in every discipline.  Preference will be given to candidates who can commit to working with the office for at least two semesters.

The Pennsylvania State University is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability in all of its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusion that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity in society and nature, and engage all individuals to help them thrive.
