Global Priorities Institute Director

The Global Priorities Institute is an interdisciplinary research centre in the Faculty of Philosophy, which aims to develop and promote philosophically and scientifically rigorous approaches to the question of how appropriately motivated actors can do good more effectively.

The University seeks a new Director for the Institute to provide intellectual vision and to give strategic leadership of the Institute as it enters the next phase of its growth and development, with a particular focus on building research programmes and teams in Economics. The post will be open to economists who have a deep understanding of the distinctive mission of the Institute and its stakeholders, and internationally respected research expertise in areas relevant to the Institute’s research programmes.

The Director will be the public face of the Institute and will oversee its activities, playing a key role in developing the Institute’s internal management structures, and its relations with the Faculty of Philosophy, the wider University, with external bodies and with the wider public, as well as with the Institute’s Advisory Board. The Director will have oversight of the efficient and effective administration of the Institute.

The Director will report to the Faculty of Philosophy’s Faculty Board Vice Chair for Research Institutes, and to the Institute’s Governing Board.

This is a fixed-term appointment for a period of four years.
