Global Government Affairs Director for Chemicals & Plastics

Dowhas an exciting opportunity for aGlobal Government Affairs Director for Chemicals & Plastics! In this role, you will lead Dow’s global advocacy strategy in intergovernmentalfora—such as the United Nations EnvironmentProgramme(UNEP)—on chemicals and plastics policy. This role is pivotal in shaping global regulatory frameworks and advancing Dow’s enterpriseobjectivesin sustainability, circularity, and responsible chemical management.

You should have in-depth knowledge of and an advanced level ofexpertisein leading-edge theories, techniques, and/or technologies within your discipline. You will influence internal and external business and/or regulatory issues that have an impact on the business. Additionally, you will lead highly visible, multidisciplinary project teams or initiatives and will need to be able to negotiate with senior management, customers, regulators, or vendors to influence decisions.

As a recognized external authority and thought leader, you will influenceglobal policy and regulatory frameworks withhigh-impacton industry and Dow’sbusiness and regulatory issues, lead multidisciplinary teams, and engage with senior stakeholders across governments,IGOs,NGOs, and industry associations. Yourexpertisewill guide Dow’s position in global negotiations and policy development, ensuring alignment with business priorities and long-term growth.

The preferred locations for this position areWashington, D.C. (USA),Brussels (BEL), orHorgen (CHE),however other global Dow locations may be considered.

Responsibilities

      • Lead Global Advocacy Strategy: Drive Dow’s engagement in internationalpolicy discussions on chemicals and plastics, including UNEP and other multilateralenvironmentalplatforms.

      • Represent Dow Externally: Serve as spokesperson and policy expert with international organizations, government officials,industryassociationsand NGOs.

      • Shape Policy Outcomes: Develop and advocate for positions that advance Dow’s interests in global regulatory frameworks, sustainability initiatives, and circular economy policies. Maysubmitamendments and regulatory language in official comment periods.

      • Build Strategic Alliances:Establishand maintain a sophisticated network of political, regulatory, and industry contacts to influence global policy agendas.

      • Collaborate Internally: Partner with business leaders, functionalleadersand technical experts to align advocacy strategies with enterpriseobjectives.

      • Lead and Develop Talent: Acts as a strategic agent on behalf of Dow’s interests and help set the agenda and shape future events for government relations in assigned area(s).

      • Engage Trade Associations: Coordinate with industry groups to develop unified positions and influence legislative and regulatory language.

Qualifications

      • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E5 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking.

      • A minimum of 12years of public policy experience.

      • Experience in chemicals and plastics policy engagementsuch asthe Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA),Registration, Evaluation,Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)or Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, and sustainabilityorcircularitysectors.

      • For U.S. Applicants:A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications

      • Graduate degree in law, publicor environmentalpolicy/government,MBA,internationalrelationsor related field.

      • Public sectorexperience.

      • Government advocacy and/or trade association experience.

      • Global advocacyin intergovernmental fora experience.

      • For positions based inWashingtonD.C., Dow is required by law to include the pay scale that isreasonably expectedtorepresentthe pay range for the position. Thispayrange relates specifically to this role opening in the District of Columbia and accounts for both new and experienced employees with consideration to factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, and sustained job performance (or similar jobs). A reasonable pay range for this position is: $225,000 – $280,000.
