Our Offer

The position will mainly support the climate change team in China, specifically the following projects:
•Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change – Climate Partnership
•Sino-German Cooperation on ETS, Carbon Market Mechanisms, and Non-CO₂ Greenhouse Gas Mitigation
In addition, the intern will also lend a hand to the coordination team of the Green Transformation Cluster of GIZ East Asia, in which the climate projects are embedded.

The Sino-German-Cooperation on Climate Change facilitates bilateral exchange on NDC implementation and climate governance between the Chinese and German government. At the national level, it supports policy dialogue and enhances the exchange of experiences and best practices. At the local level, activities contribute to the enhanced implementation of climate policies (e.g. regarding mitigation and finance) and measures in China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. GIZ implements the projects as part of Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN).

Your tasks

• Research assignments on European, German and Chinese climate policy and support in closely following and reporting on climate-related policy developments.
• Assistance in the preparation, implementation and follow-up of project activities (including but not limited to meetings, bilateral dialogues, expert workshops, networking, conferences, study tours etc.) and related documentation of project results for internal and external use.
• Communication-related tasks in the climate team, including the maintenance and updating of the internet presence, PR and information materials, IKI newsletters and presentation slides.
• Support of strategic communication for the Green Transformation Cluster at GIZ East Asia.
• Support the gender-responsive implementation of the projects, including data monitoring, research and awareness-raising.
• Translations between German and English (and Chinese).
• Support of administrative project tasks.

Your Profile

required criteria

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree or recently graduated (within last six months) in a relevant field, e.g. Climate/Energy Policy, Environmental Economics, Political Science, International Relations or Regional Studies.
• Understanding of international climate change policies and instruments, in particular in China, Germany and the EU.
• Reliable, independent, results-oriented, structured working style and able to meet tight deadlines.
• Team player, enthusiastic, and with good communication skills.

Language Skills

• Working proficiency in German and English

desirable criteria

• Prior work experience/internships in the area of climate change, international cooperation and/or prior work experience/internships in China
• Experience in writing and using WordPress CMS
• Knowledge of Mandarin
